Lash Extension Aftercare FAQ

Can I use the Cleanser Concentrate to wash my face/eyebrows?

Absolutely! Our Prolong Lash Cleanser Concentrate isn’t just for your eyelash extensions it doubles as a gentle, oil-free lash cleanser that’s safe to use on your entire face and eyebrows. Simply wet your face with warm water, lather a small amount of the cleanser concentrate in your hands, and gently massage it into your skin (avoiding direct contact with your eyes).

When cleansing your eyelash extensions, we recommend using one of our soft Eyelash Extension Cleansing Brushes to apply the lather and gently sweep away dirt, oil, and buildup from the lash line. This method supports a thorough lash extension aftercare routine that helps maintain clean, healthy lashes between appointments.

Does the cleanser need to be rinsed off or can it just be wiped off with a tissue/cloth?

Think of the Prolong Lash Cleanser the same way you would a shampoo for your hair it's made to lather and rinse. For best results, always rinse thoroughly with fresh water after cleansing. Wiping it off with a tissue or cloth may leave behind residue that can interfere with your eyelash extensions and overall lash extension aftercare routine.

To properly cleanse, gently lather the lash cleanser (whether you’re using the cleanser concentrate or our ready-to-use foaming pump) and make sure all product is washed away, leaving your lashes and skin fresh, clean, and residue-free.

How often should you wash lash extensions once they’ve been applied?

Just like your skin, your lash extensions should be washed regularly, preferably twice a day, to remove daily dirt and oils that build up on the lash line.

Can I just use a regular face cleanser?

Regular cleansers are great for your skin but may contain harsh ingredients that aren’t designed for eyelash extensions and are not Ophthalmologically Tested for use on eyes. To help preserve your beautiful lashes and protect your eyes, it’s best to use a specifically designed eyelash extension shampoo, like our Cleanser Concentrate.

Can I use regular skincare when I have lash extensions?

Feel free to use your regular skincare products, like serums, moisturizers, and any treatment products. Be careful when applying eye cream, ensuring that you do not rub excessively against your lashes.

Can I use sunscreen when I have lash extensions?

Yes! We recommend using sunscreen every day to help prevent premature aging and protect your skin from UVB and UVA rays. Just be mindful that if sweat mixes with the sunscreen and gets into your lashes, you should immediately wash your lashes with Prolong Lash Cleanser.

How long do lash extensions typically last?

Lash extensions can typically last 4 to 6 weeks. If you wish to maintain them, you will likely need an infill every 2 to 4 weeks. The longevity of your lash extensions depends on proper aftercare, environmental factors, and the lash application technique.

Is it normal for eyelashes to sting in the shower?

If your lashes are stinging when you’re in the shower, your skincare routine may need a review. Are you washing your lashes twice a day with a certified lash cleanser? If not, it’s best to use our Prolong Lash Foaming Lash Cleanser Pump and an eyelash extension cleaning brush to gently yet effectively remove dirt, oil, and grime between your natural lashes and lash extensions.

Is it normal for my lashes to shed after I’ve had them done?

Lash shedding is a natural part of the lash growth cycle and is expected. As your natural lashes shed, the applied lash extensions may move away from the lash line. If you experience excessive lash loss—more than five lashes per day—contact your lash artist or salon to discuss proper aftercare solutions.

Does Prolong Lash Cleanser sting the eyes?

Prolong Lash Cleanser is Ophthalmologically tested and approved as safe for the eyes, including for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers. It is not normal for stinging to occur when using Prolong Lash Cleanser.

If stinging does occur, it may be due to over-dilution, causing the formula to be too watery and seeping into the eyes. Ensure you follow the dilution guidelines of 1/3 cleanser concentrate to 2/3 distilled water. If you need more information on dilution, you can find our dilution table on the Prolong Lash Cleanser Concentrate product page.
